Photography 2006 - Level 1
- Instructor: Doug Wilcox 428-5051
- Gear you'll need: Simple Working Camera. Film rolls (if non-digital)- 12 exp best , Camera cleaning kit, Photo Album if desired (I will supply a free binder with pages that can be used).
Meeting 1
SAFETY & COURTESIES OF PHOTOGRAPHY
- BM - Bring example pictures that might have been dangerous to take
- DM - Introductions & review course outline
- DM - Mount the pictures and describe why the might have been unsafe.
- DM - Practice asking to take pictures
- DM - Discuss photo permission form
- AM - Safely take a picture that could otherwise be dangerous
Meeting 2
THE CAMERA & HOW IT WORKS
- BM - Select your film camera for the course, Put your name on it. Bring it and any instruction manuals to meeting.
- DM - Learn the difference between a point and shoot camera and an SLR camera.
- DM - Learn the differnce between a digital and film camera.
- DM - Describe your camera
- DM - Learn the parts of a camera
- AM - Take pictures of your home as if you were a stranger, then as a small animal.
Meeting 3
CARE OF YOUR CAMERA & FILM
- BM - Make sure have camera cleaning supplies kit. Bring camera, manual, film and cleaning supplies to meeting.
- BM - Bring a picture of a distant place (own, cut from magazine) Bring picture, camera, manual an film to meeting.
- DM - Learn How to handle and care for your camera.
- DM - Learn about film. Fill out questions.
- DM - Learn usefulness of a photolog.
- AM - Take pictures of an object either containing a curve or a straight line or an overhead shot.
Meeting 4
HANDLING A CAMERA & LEARNING HOW TO SEE
- BM - Mount and label pictures done to-date in Album
- BM - Locate a blurry and a sharp picture. Bring to meeting.
- DM - Learn about depth of field
- DM - Learn how to prevent problems and avoid camera shake.
- DM - Practice viewing objects in new ways. Observe shadows, angles patterns. Mount and record new ways. Pick assignment.
- AM - Take blurry and non-blurry picture. Take horizontal and vertical picture.
- AM - Do Assignment - Lines, 6 pictures - community or things
Meeting 5
COMPOSITION
- BM - Find photos (in magazines, catalogues or own) to bring to be critiqued. Bring to meeting.
- DM - Learn about rule of nines (thirds)
- DM - Review photos. Take picture of friend - far & close, posed and non-posed.
- AM - Take 2 or 3 pictures of people doing something.
- AM - Take 3 or 4 pictures simple and uncluttered.
Meeting 6
LIGHTING & MOVING SUBJECTS/STATIONARY SUBJECTS
- BM - Find pictures with not enough light & too much light. Look for pictures that suggest movement. Bring to meeting.
- DM - Learn about exposure triangle
- DM - Fill out questions.
- DM - Discuss photos & Movement.
- AM - Do one light poject - either calendar shadows or time of day head shot or front and backlighted.
- AM - Take a picture of something moving using techniques taught.
Meeting 7
CARE OF PICTURES
- BM - Make sure you have all assignements done. Bring photos and album.
- DM - Fill out cost record. Finishing touch, project evaluation. Discuss/ make achievement display.
- AM - Finish workbook, finish albums. Bring to achievement.
